　　Pioneering project to recycle rubbish

　　A pioneering project to turn household rubbish into garden compost is set to be approved by a local authority in Scotland.

　　Councilors in Midlothian will consider the plan, which experts say will lead to 40% of the district's household waste（=household rubbish家庭垃圾） being recycled rather than dumped in landfill sites

　　The compost produced from the recycling process will be used in council parks and gardens.

　　If approved, the initiative will involve the setting up of a multi-million pound centrally-based sorting complex where specialist systems can recognise materials suitable for composting.

　　The recycled compost will then be used for fertilising council gardens and sports fields.

　　Italian design

　　Midlothian councillor Russell Imrie said the system and the planned design was based on one already used in Italy.

　　The facility, along with other elements in a new environment strategy, would enable the council to comply with stringent European Union directives on waste.

　　The council is expected to give its approval within the month.

　　If the timetable goes to plan, the suggested centre could be operating within two years.
