　　Task2：Children spend a lot of time watching TV and playing computer games. Some people think ，however such activities do not help to develop a child's mental abilities. To what extent do you agree or disagree？

　　The amount of time children spend watching TV and playing computer games has been increasing, which gives rise to the concern among parents and educators that children excessively exposed to such activities may not be able to develop necessary mental abilities. Personally,I partly agree with this opinion because I believe watching TV and playing PC games exert totally different influences on children.

　　Spending hours in front of the television deprives young viewers of the chance to develop their imagination and information processing ability. With regard to the former, as all the contents provided are already available and seen in the same way by all TV viewers, this discourages the watcher from being imaginatively active. The other downside of consistent TV viewing is that TV viewers, as passive recipients,are less eager to use their own brains to analyse all the information and knowledge.

　　However, children in favour of computer games are more likely to acquire a range of mental abilities. Firstly,virtual games requiring players to come up with strategies, like Plants VS Zombies, contribute to developing better problem-solving ability. To accomplish higher levels of challenges and win better rewards, young players will push their limit in the effort to find ?the best solution. Also, computer games designed to challenge players' reactions help children to develop the ability to make split-second decisions, which stimulates the development of their brains.
