Results of sports competitions are determined by various factors. Some people believe that the individuals and teams with the greatest strength and the fastest speed are more likely to be the medalists, whereas others argue that a positive attitude plays a more importantrole in winning a sports game.
On the one hand,the importance of physical fitness and strength is apparent in many sorts ofsports. For example, only the athletes with extraordinary explosive power are able to compete in the 100- or 200-meter races. The faster one can run, the easier it is to win. Similarly, a basketball team that is eligible to win a championship must consist of a crew of players who possess outstanding stamina,physical coordination, and great flexibility. Therefore, it is easy to understand why athletes are required to devote most of their time and energy to building muscle and training strength.
On the other hand,it is believed that a good mentality, to a great extent, determines the results of sports competitions. More specifically, athletes aiming at winning medalsmust be able to stay calm throughout a game or not easily give it up even in an uphill battle. One of the most obvious examples of this is the shooting competition where the ability to focus on the target without being affected by the crowds is far more important than the physical strength.
