Task2：Nowadays, we are producing more and more rubbish. Why do you think this is happening? What can governments do to help reduce the amount of rubbish produced?
It is true that in almost every country today each household and family produce a large amount of waste every week. I think that improved living standards and increasing popularity of disposable products are probably responsible for this.
The first reason why we have an increasing amount of rubbish is that we consume so much more on a daily basis than families did in the past. With rising affordability, people today tend to frequently buy new clothes and the latest electronic devices. As a result, the packaging from the things we buy significantly increases the amount of rubbish.
The increasing amount of waste produced is also a result of our tendency to use something once and throw it away. More specifically, to live a convenient life, disposable products, such as bottled water or paper handkerchief, have been gaining popularity, which contributes to a larger amount of rubbish produced on a daily basis.
Certainly nobody wants to see our planet poisoned by waste, so measure should be taken to combat this situation. Firstly, children should be educated about environmental issues at school. For example, knowledge about how to recycle waste should be factored into their curriculum. Governments can also encourage adults to take action by putting taxes on packing, such as plastic bags and by fining households and shops that do not attempt to recycle their waste.
In conclusion, the pursuit of a higher quality of life has led to an alarming increase in the amount of rubbish. With the political will, such measures could really mitigate the problem.
