　　Task2: In many countries, more and more people buy a wide range of household goods like television microwave oven and rice cooker. Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

　　For a variety of reasons, such as rising personal incomes and declining prices, many families are now equipped with a wider range of electric household appliances. In my opinion, the increasing consumption and use of these products positively influences individual life but negatively impacts the natural and social environment.

　　On the one hand, the increasing purchase of home appliances makes everyday life considerably easier and far more relaxing than ever before. With regard to the former, families well equipped with labour-saving devices are able to start and finish daily chores in shorter duration. For example, microwaves and rice cookers can largely simplify the cooking process and therefore save modern people living a fast-paced life a lot of time for rest. Washing machines and vacuum cleaners also serve similar purposes, allowing parents to spend more time with their children. As for families that have bought televisions or personal computers, they have better access to entertaining themselves by watching their favourite dramas or playing exciting sports games in their leisure time.

　　On the other hand, there are some drawbacks as a result of our excessive reliance on household appliances. For instance, due to the use of rice cookers, the traditional way of cooking has almost become extinct, which means that some food cultures are also gone. What is more, overdependence on machines powered by electricity poses a threat to the environment. In other words, the more families prefer to perform daily chores with the help of machines, the more fuels need to be consumed to meet the demand of power. As a result, greenhouse gases emitted from the process will worsen existing environmental problems, such as higher global temperature or more droughts.

　　In conclusion, the increase in the consumption of domestic appliances can bring considerable benefits to the individual, but a downside is also unavoidable to the society and environment.
