雅思写作中定语从句的特殊情况

关系词只能用who 不能用that的情况

1. 先行词是one, ones, anyone

One who has nothing to fear dares to tell the truth.

2. 先行词是those，宜用who

Those who dump waste casually have no awareness ofenvironmental protection.

3. 先行词有较长的后置定语时

I met a girl in the street yesterday who grew up in western Yunnan province.

4. 句子中带有两个定语从句时，其中一个定语从句的关系代词是that,另一个宜用who

The boy that you met last night is the group leader who studies very hard.

5. 在there be句型开头的句子中

There are many people who like watching TV.

限制性定语从句中只用that而不用which 的情况

1. 主语有疑问词who/which时

Who is the man that is sitting by the lake?

2. 先行词既有人又有物时

He talked about the schools and teachers that he had visited.

3. 先行词为all, much, few, little, something, everything, anything, nothing,none 等不定代词时

All that we can do is to make a difference by doing little things.

4. 先行词有序数词或者形容词最高级修饰时

This is the first time that we have met.

This is the best way that has been adopted tofight pollution.

5. 先行词有 the very, the only, the same, any, few, little, no, all, one of 等词修饰时

This is the very room that I slept in that evening.

6. 有两个定语从句，其中一个关系代词已用which,另一个宜用that

Edison built up a factory which produced things that had never been seen before.

只用which ,不用that的情况

1. 引导非限制性定语从句 (注意，which非限制性定语从句不仅可以修饰前面的句子，还可以修饰前面的名词)

The fish, which I bought this morning, is very fresh.

2. 在限制性定语从句中，关系代词前有介词时

This is the hotel in which you will stay. (= This is the hotelwhich/that you will stay in.)
