　　Task2：Some people think that one of the best ways to solve environmental problems is to increase the cost of fuel for cars and other vehicles. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

　　The globe is faced with the grave problem of environmental pollution. Some believe that one of the most effective method to combat it is to raise the price of petrol. Personally, I completely disagree with this view.

　　While it is undeniable that private car use is one of the main causes of the increase in pollution, higher fuel costs are unlikely to limit the number of drivers for long. This is because people today rely far more heavily on private cars than ever before either due to the fast paced life or because of the expansion of cities. Therefore, despite a rise in the cost of fuel, the pollution caused by car using cannot be effectively curbed.

　　In addition, there is evidence that car emissions are not the leading cause of environmental hazards. The culprit instead may be the discharge of polluting substances into the atmosphere due to the rapidly growing manufacturing industry. As a result, a decrease in the number of cars would not return us a blue sky and fresh air.

　　Therefore, I think to tackle the problem of pollution, cleaner fuels need to be developed. The technology is already available to produce electric cars that would be both quieter and cleaner to use. Persuading manufacturers and travellers to adopt the new technology would be a more effective strategy for improving air quality, especially in cities.

　　In conclusion, I think that long-term pollution reduction would depend on the effort towards researching and developing environmentally-friendly power rather than a simple rise in the price of petrol.
