　　Task2：More and more people buy and use their own cars. Do you think the advantages of this trend for individuals outweigh its disadvantages for environment?

　　For a variety of reasons, such as rising personal incomes and declining prices, many people own at least one car and use it frequently. In my opinion, the increase in the number of private cars brings owners incredible convenience, but the damages caused to the environment are far more significant.

　　The most mentioned advantage of buying a private car is that it allows people to travel in a comfortable and flexible way both on weekdays and at weekends. With regard to daily commuters, driving a car means that they are able to find the least congested route to the office and have the best mobile shelter from inclement weather, both of which give the driver a pleasant day from Monday to Friday. When it comes to the time to escape from the urban environment, car owners have a wider range of freedom, neither worrying about the fixed routine and timetable of public transport nor regretting the absence of their dog which is normally forbidden on a bus.

　　However, I do not think that it is worthwhile to enjoy above mentioned benefits at the sacrifice of our environment. As a matter of fact, the devastation caused by car using to the air and water is far more serious than imagined. For example, running cars keep producing greenhouse gas emissions, such as carbon dioxide and sulphur oxide, which contribute to global warming. Furthermore, some air pollutants and particulate matter from cars can be deposited on soil and surface waters where they enter the food chain; these substances can affect the reproductive, respiratory, immune and neurological systems of animals. Even though an increasing number of cars are now powered by electricity, they account for only a small proportion of the total number.

　　In conclusion, without suggesting that all private cars should be banned, I think the benefits of increasing car ownership is outweighed by its environmental hazards.
