  Today, the high sales of popular consumer goods reflect the power of advertising and not the real needs of the society in which they are sold. To what extent do you agree or disagree?


  Sample answer :


  Nowadays, market economy is advancing at astaggering rate with the contribution of advertising which is an art of persuasion circulating information mixing half truth with half lying. However,whether the high sales of popular consumer goods reflect the substantially persuasive power of advertising or not is a controversial issue. For my part, the changes in the real needs of a society also make contributions to the large sales volume, apart from the commercials.

  1.介绍背景信息---广告的实质和在经济发展中的作用;


  2. 提出争论的焦点---产品销量高是不是广告吹嘘得好的结果?


  3. 观点:广告吹嘘是一方面,而不断变化的社会需求也不容忽视。


  First, it is obvious that the updating lifestyle in accordance with the social progress varies unbelievably, which greatly expands people’s demands for various necessities. Specifically, many products which are commonly used today were unnecessary for people in the past because of the unavailability of the matched service for the products, such assmartphones, which were useless in the era of analog signal.


  理由段一:不断提升的生活方式在社会发展过程中扩大了人们对各种生活必需品的需求。比如对手机的需求就是新时代信息发展所带来的需求。


  Moreover, people today attach moreimportance to improving the life qualities through enjoying the luxuries. For example, private cars have become increasingly popular in China and the salesvolume is constantly enlarged each year because citizens are no longersatisfied with life style of traveling by using the public transportation. To some extent, people tend to purchase the consumer goods which could not onlymeet their basic needs but also provide them with more friendly experience andsense of fashion.


  理由段二:人们对生活品质的提升有着很自然的愿望---都想享受生活,这也使得人们作为消费者对某些产品产生需求而去购买。


  Admittedly, to some degree, the power of commercials indeed contributes to the high sales of the popular products due to the appealing catch phrases with the help of media exposure. Of course, the adscan easily influence consumers to buy those goods without regard to the real needs and the practical purpose. However, most consumers’ judgment has become more rational and they make more consideration about the practical utility ofthe goods rather than their subjective desire.


  让步反驳:尽管广告在媒体的帮助下对于产品的促销有一定的作用,但是现代人对产品需求的判断更为理性化,也更注重商品的实用性。


  In sum, the high sales of popular goods grow out of changes in the real needs of the society more than the power of advertising. Nevertheless, we should neither ignore these changes nor overestimate the power of advertising.


  总结:社会需求的不断变化比广告对加大产品销售量起到更大的作用,但是两者都不能忽视。
